How To Do a Rate Study: From Cost of Service to Real-World Rate Decisions
Rate studies are about more than numbers, spreadsheets and consultant reports. For electric cooperatives, they are a critical tool for aligning financial strategy, cost recovery, rate design and member fairness in a fast-changing industry. In this session, participants will walk through the full rate study process, including when a study is needed, how revenue requirements and cost-of-service fit together, how to evaluate rate design options and how to critically review results before moving to implementation. Using a real cooperative example, this session will help leaders translate technical analysis into practical, defensible decisions.
